Lake of the Woods Volunteer Fire and Rescue, Inc. serves LOW. Staff is on-call 24-hours a day. The firehouse and rescue squad facilties are located adjacent to the front entrance of LOW.
Volunteers are always needed who are willing to learn to drive emergency vehicles or undergo EMT and emergency assistance training. Some opportuntities are also open to teenagers who want to serve the community.
An annual fund drive is held to help finance the purchase of new and replacement equipment, maintain facilities and provide training. Fire and Rescue sponsors weekly Bingo games and the Fourth of July Festival, and offers the booklet, The Fascinating History of Lake of the Woods, proceeds from which help support its work. They also publish and sell the Lake of the Woods Directory, a telephone directory exclusive to LOW that includes valuable information for residents.
