Community Center
110 Sweetbriar Park Rd, Locust Grove

The Lake of the Woods Community Center
is a building where
the community can come together.

The Community Center is located at Sweetbriar Park.  It houses the Youth Center (see Youth Center for additional information) and the Lake Co-Op Preschool, and provides additional meeting space for LOWA committees, clubs, and organizations.  It also offers additional space for recreation and enables the expansion of community program activities while serving a greater number of our youth.  Each year, the LOW Players stage two theater productions in the Community Center, with a different set designed and constructed for each play.  Other activities include yoga, adult table tennis, adult co-ed volleyball, and pickle ball.

Lake Co-op Preschool

Founded in 1978 and managed by parent volunteers, the preschool is a state-certified social and educational program. The school serves resident children age two to four, with a maximum class size of 10 for the two-year-olds and 16 for the three- and four-year-olds. There are both morning and afternoon classes for the three- and four-year-olds and a morning program for two-year-olds, with a teacher and assistant for each class. The continuance of a low cost, high quality program requires that parents contribute their time or financial support for fundraising events, which provide additional resources for creative educational programs/materials, trips, and parties that enhance the classroom experience.

The Youth Center is located in the Community Center at Sweetbriar Park. The youth activities program is guided by the Community and Youth Activities Committee. The success of many of the programs relies on volunteer assistance from parents of teen users, and parents are strongly encouraged to assist the Youth Center by becoming chaperones for activities on a schedule that is convenient to them.

The Youth Center is open to all LOW resident/tenant youth age 11 to 15. Admission to the Youth Center is dependent on every teen user registering at the Youth Center and obtaining a LOW Youth Center Photo ID card, at minimal cost. This is necessary to keep emergency contact information on file, and to help defray the cost of food and supplies provided by the Center. There is no amenity fee for use of the Youth Center.  ID cards are renewable in the spring. Teens may bring visiting guests for a $3 fee to Youth Center activities on a first-come, first-admitted basis, but must be signed in by a LOW parent.

Youths activities are offered Friday evenings at the Youth Center throughout the year, with the exception of major holiday weekends. Teens play pool, ping-pong, dodgeball, volleyball, pickleball, board and card games, and video games. Donations are always appreciated.  Holiday gatherings and events are scheduled, and special seasonal trips and activities outside LOW are also offered, when enough interest is expressed.
